Sydney-Hobart - a dashing victory for Beneteau First

The annual Sydney-Hobart yachting event is recognized as one of the toughest ocean racing events. The participants of the race had to pass 628 miles of troubled waters of the southern coast of Australia. Traditionally, the regatta starts on December 26 – the day after Catholic Christmas.

The most problematic section of the route is Bass Strait, which is famous for frequent storms, as well as headwinds. Such unstretched conditions can be called a test for yachts and racers of exceptional difficulty.

It is noteworthy that since the founding, in 1945, of the Sydney-Hobart yacht race, only in 1952 all its participants were lucky enough to reach the finish line.

Regarding the rules for determining the winners, the Tattersall Cup, the main prize of the regatta, is awarded to the leading participant in the IRC system (subject to corrected time). There are frequent cases when the superyachts that came first are bypassed by not so fast yachts, but with a better score.

According to the results of the 2012 competition, the top eight places in the IRC3 division have been won Beneteau First. The unfolding struggle was not easy, because it took place practically in the one-design class.  yachts Lunchtime Legend and Brannew (first and second place respectively) – and both Beneteau First 40 CR, the third place of the podium went to the yacht First 45, and after the top three winners followed by five yachts&nbsp ;First 40. It is necessary to note one more pleasant nuance for Beneteau – all competing Beneteau First were at the finish line.

In 2009, the Beneteau First 40 CR Two True and Wicked took first and second place respectively.

In order to emphasize the significance of the annual victories of Beneteau First, it should be noted that weather conditions are of great importance in this regatta. So, after the arrival of the first yachts to the finish line, the weather becomes less favorable – it significantly increases the travel time of yachts that have spent more time on the course. It is from this point of view that it is significant that Beneteau First yachts become winners year after year, as they compete not only with fast-moving carbon superyachts up to 100 feet in length, but also with similar ones.
